Privacy policy · updated September 2026
We never receive the figures you enter.
There is no account to create and no server that receives the numbers you type into the calculator. This site uses Google Analytics to measure traffic and Google AdSense to serve display advertisements. This page discloses how data and cookies are used, and how to control your privacy.
The short version
Every calculation happens locally on your device. The numbers you enter — IRA balances, age, income, tax filing status, and expenses — are never sent by this site to our servers or to third parties, and we have no way to view them. We use Google Analytics for aggregate visitor metrics and Google AdSense for display advertising. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on prior visits. You can opt out of personalized advertising at any time.
Advertising and Google AdSense
This site displays advertisements served by Google AdSense and its partner networks to help support the cost of hosting and maintenance while keeping the calculators completely free.
Under Google's AdSense policies and privacy regulations, we provide the following required disclosures:
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to this website or other websites on the Internet.
- Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to visitors based on their visit to this site and/or other sites across the web.
- Third-party ad networks and vendors may serve ads on this site and may also place and read cookies on your browser, or use web beacons to collect information as a result of ad serving.
For comprehensive details on how Google handles data collected through its partner services, please visitHow Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services and theGoogle Privacy Policy.
How to opt out of personalized advertising
You have the right to control how advertising cookies are used and whether ads are personalized to your browsing activity:
- Google Ads Settings: You can opt out of personalized advertising from Google by visitingGoogle Ads Settings.
- Digital Advertising Alliance (US): You can opt out of third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalized advertising by visiting the DAA's Consumer Choice page ataboutads.info/choices.
- Network Advertising Initiative (NAI): You can also opt out via the NAI opt-out tool atoptout.networkadvertising.org.
- European Interactive Digital Advertising Alliance (EDAA): If you are in the EEA or UK, you can manage your online advertising choices atyouronlinechoices.eu.
- Browser settings and ad blockers: You can configure your browser to block third-party cookies, or use privacy extensions and content blockers. The calculator functions normally regardless of your ad blocking or cookie settings.
Analytics
This site loads Google Analytics 4 (measurement IDG-PH8FNYWQEQ) on production page views. It is used to measure aggregate site usage — such as which guides and calculators are most frequently accessed — so development effort is directed where it helps users most.
Google Analytics collects:
- The requested page URL, referring URL, and timestamp
- Approximate geographical location derived from IP address (the IP address itself is not logged or retained in reports)
- Device type, operating system, browser, screen resolution, and language
- A pseudonymous cookie identifier to distinguish distinct visitor sessions over time
Crucially, Google Analytics does not receive your calculator inputs. The calculator form fields and state variables are not wired to analytics events, and no financial data is ever transmitted in any hit.
How to opt out of analytics
- Install the officialGoogle Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
- Use any standard content blocker or privacy-focused browser.
- Enable "Do Not Track" or block third-party cookies in your browser settings.
What we never collect or transmit
- No account credentials. There is no registration, login, username, email, or password required.
- No financial inputs. Your account balances, annual conversion targets, filing status, earned income, capital gains, health insurance premiums, and retirement dates are evaluated entirely by client-side JavaScript executing in your web browser. This site never sends them to our servers or passes them to third parties. The Google advertising and analytics scripts and Cloudflare's analytics beacon described below do run on these pages, and some of them report the page address. So your figures are kept out of the address: while you work they are held in your browser tab, and when you open a share link, the figures in it are read and removed from the address bar before any of those scripts loads. We do not configure them to collect form values.
- No keystroke or session recording. We do not run heatmaps, mouse tracking, screen recordings, or form telemetry scripts.
- No third-party font logging. Typeface assets are self-hosted directly from this site's origin via
@fontsourcepackages, eliminating third-party font CDN tracking. - No email lists or marketing databases. We do not operate a newsletter, marketing list, or lead-generation program.
Cookies and browser storage
Here is the complete inventory of storage mechanisms used across the site:
1. Advertising cookies (Google AdSense)
- Cookies such as
__gads,__gpi,IDE, and related Google advertising identifiers are used to serve ads, prevent fraud, limit the number of times you see a particular ad, and measure ad performance.
2. Analytics cookies (Google Analytics)
_gaand_ga_PH8FNYWQEQstore a pseudonymous client ID to count unique visitors and sessions. These expire up to two years after your last visit.
3. Local storage (stored on your device only, never transmitted)
theme: Remembers your display theme preference (light, dark, or system default).- Saved scenario keys: If you explicitly use the "Save scenario" feature in any calculator, the input parameters are stored in your browser's
localStorageunder that tool's namespace. These figures remain on your device and are never sent over the network.
4. Session storage (this browser tab only, never transmitted)
- Working scenario: Each calculator keeps your current inputs in the tab's
sessionStorageso a reload doesn't lose them. It is cleared when you close the tab.
You can remove all locally stored data at any time through your browser's "Clear site data" or "Clear cookies and site storage" preferences.
Share links and URL fragments
When you use the "Copy share link" feature, your scenario inputs are serialized into the URL fragment after the # hash symbol. That link is the only place the figures are put into an address; the calculators never write them to the address bar on their own.
- Because browsers never send the
#fragment in HTTP requests to web servers, your scenario figures are not received or logged by our host. - When a share link is opened, the page reads the figures and removes them from the address bar before any advertising or analytics script loads, so those scripts' page reports do not include them.
- However, anyone with whom you share the URL can view the exact figures encoded within it. Treat shared scenario links with the same discretion you would apply to a screenshot of your financial numbers.
Hosting infrastructure and server logs
The site is delivered as static files through a global content delivery network (Cloudflare). Standard technical web server logs (including visitor IP address, user agent, requested path, and timestamp) are temporarily processed to route requests, deliver assets efficiently, and protect against automated abuse or DDoS attacks. These logs do not contain calculator inputs.
Cloudflare also adds its Web Analytics beacon to our pages. It does not set cookies. It reports the page address, the referring page, browser, operating system and device details, and page-load and performance timings to Cloudflare so we can see aggregate traffic and performance. It does not receive calculator inputs.
EEA, UK, and International Visitors (GDPR)
If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA) or the United Kingdom:
- Essential functionality (serving static pages and local storage of preferences) operates on the basis of legitimate interest and technical necessity.
- For visitors in the EEA, the UK, and Switzerland, Google advertising and analytics storage is set to denied by default (Google Consent Mode) and changes only when you give consent through the consent message shown in those regions. The opt-out mechanisms above also apply.
- Data transfers to Google infrastructure in the United States rely on standard contractual clauses and the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.
- You may exercise your rights to opt out of tracking, object to processing, or request deletion by utilizing the opt-out tools detailed on this page or contacting us directly.
California and US State Privacy Disclosures (CCPA / CPRA)
Under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) as amended by the CPRA, and similar state privacy laws:
- We do not collect personal identifying information (such as your name, email address, or financial accounts) through our calculators.
- We do not sell personal information in exchange for monetary payment.
- The use of third-party advertising cookies for cross-context behavioral advertising may be considered "sharing" or "targeted advertising" under certain state laws. You can opt out of personalized advertising using the opt-out links listed in the Advertising section above (Google Ads Settings andAboutAds Choice Tool).
- We honor the Global Privacy Control signal. When your browser sends it, the Google tags on this site are told not to use your data for ad personalization or share it for advertising, with no further action needed from you.

The Roth Ladder is a financial and retirement tax educational resource intended for adults. It is not directed to children under 13 (or under 16 where applicable by law), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
